Events schedule so far

Hello all,
Thanks to those of you who attended our first meeting last week. I felt very pleased about the turnout and interest in our organization. If you missed the first meeting, we'll be having our next in the coming weeks. We'll do our best to have the best speakers, debates, and other events on campus this year. Speaking of events, we have the following planned so far:

Constitution Day, Monday Sept. 18 - Chris Rust (moi) our chapter president will give a speech at 5:15pm in the Tudor Room entitled "The Most Nuturing and Important of All the Founding Fathers" to celebrate this new national day of recognition of our founding document, the US Constitution. The speech will discuss the tremendous impact and influence Cheif Justice John Marshall had on shaping the direction of our Constitution and our nation before and during his time on the bench. I hope you all can attend. At very least, it should be good for a laugh!

Oct. 25 - Debate: Voting Rights Act; Abigail Thernstrom, Scholar, Manhattan Institute v. Prof. Randolph McLauglin, Pace Law School

Nov. 1 - Visit and speech from Robert Smith, Associate Judge, NY Court of Appeals

Nov. 6 - Visit and speech from Howard Radzely, Solicitor of Labor, US Dept. of Labor

We are also working on bringing in Dr. Jack Kress to speak on either Ethical Issues of Organ Transplants or Federal Sentencing Guidelines. Dr. Kress invented sentencing guidelines and his 1980 book "Prescription for Justice: The Theory and Practice of Sentencing Guidelines" was very important in their implementation and use for nearly 25 years now. Of course, SCOTUS decided in Blakely v. Washington in 2004 that sentencing guidelines are advisory and not mandatory. Please e-mail me at pacelawfederalist@hotmail.com to let me know which of these 2 topics you would prefer to have Dr. Kress speak on.

Cheers for now. I'll post more info for you all soon.
